  3. Nouhad-
I think Amir felt happy to see his old house but scared at the same time to be back in the time of war.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Brad:

Do you think Amir regretted leaving Kabul?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Why did they kill the man and women in the soccer stadium?

    ReplyDelete
  6. To answer Drew's question, I think he was so shocked that these things are happening in his country. He was so accustom to all the great memories of his home town and when he comes back he has to witness so many awful things.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Nouhad,
I think Amir was flooded with emotion because that was where he grew up and to see it destroyed would not be a good feeling.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Do you think that the pomegranate tree is a symbol or has significance? Especially because the tree will most likely not bare fruit again?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I agree with you Brad. I wonder if he enjoyed or disliked being back in his home country.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Nouhad-
I think he felt a mix of emotion because it was where he grew up. He spent a lot of time at that house and it holds a lot of memories, good and bad.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Im with Brad, i think it did bring back memories of his childhood. Maybe good and bad memories.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Nouhad-
I think that Amir felt sad to see his father's house worn down and beat up after Baba had spent his own time to build it. Also because that is where he grew up and he couldn't stand to see his childhood rotted away.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Nouhad E.

I think that Amir feels Kind of sad and lonely when he sees Baba's house again.

    ReplyDelete
  14. nouhad
I think that he was somewhat happy because it brought back memories. But at the same time scared to be there, because of everything going on around him.

    ReplyDelete
  15. How do you think Amir feels seeing his old house?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Jenny,
I believe that they killed them at the stadium to show the people they are in charge and they have the power. After seeing that, I don't think anyone would try to rise up against them.

    ReplyDelete
  17. What do you think the people at the soccer field were being punished for?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Jenny- I think they kill people in the soccer stadium because a lot of people are watching and i think the Taliban think if more people watch, the more the people will fear them.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Jenny-
I think that the Taliban killed the people in the stadium because they wanted to get across a point to the spectators to not make the same mistake as the people being executed did.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Brad: i think it was a mixture of good and bad memories and thinks he made a bad decision of leaving Kabul

    ReplyDelete
  21. Why are the Taliban so power crazy? and Why do they want people to fear them?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Jamie:
I definitely think that it does. Since it will never bare fruit again, that's sort of like Amir and Hassan's relationship and also can relate to the country. It relates to their relationship because Amir can never fix that bond again since he is gone. Also, it relates to the country because he had so many sweet memories of the past and now they are gone because his country iscredibly torn apart and traumatized.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Jamie-
I think the pomegranate tree does symbols something. The fact that the tree is still standing when all the others trees are no longer standing. I also think that since the tree can not bear fruit anymore shows that it is getting old and has been through so much- just like Amir has been.

    ReplyDelete
  24. jenny: they kill people in the staduimn to inflict fear into the people and make them scared f what can happen....

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nouhad-
I also agree that Amir had mixed emotions about going back to his childhood home and ironically his neighborhood was one of the "ok" looking cities still left.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Do you think that Amir feels more guilty about Hassan's death now that he is seeing the house and memories are coming back to him like how he stopped being friends to Hassan?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jenny:

I think they killed the man and the woman because they want to show people that they are in control of everyone, and no one can mess with them or else they will be killed.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Krysta-
The people in the soccer stadium being executed were probably disrespecting the Taliban in a very minor way in which got them captured and eventually murdered.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Sarah: I think the taliban want people to fear them for one main reason, if they are feared, no one will try to overpower or take them over.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jamie M,
I do think the tree has significance. I think it shows how torn the country is by war. When they were kids, they used to sit under the tree and read. Now, during the war, there is no fruit and it is a dangerous place.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Jamie M.

Yes i do think that the tree symbolizes something in the book. I think it symbolizes love and how strong love is.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Sarah:
I think the Taliban are so power crazy because they were abandoned as children. They want that ability to be known and make other peoples decisions. I think it's just scarring from their past that has shaped who they are today.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sarah-
The Taliban are power crazy most likely because they are ignorant and believe they know everything and have been raised with a very extreme view about their country instilled in them.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Why does Amir refer to his old house as Baba's house?

    ReplyDelete
  35. On page 262 it says, "Like so much else in Kabul, my father's house was the picture of fallen splendor."

What do you think Amir's beaten up and broken down house represents or symbolizes?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Will Amir ever have a child? will he adopt Sohrab?

    ReplyDelete
  37. What do you think the bloodstain in Amir's room that he rented in the hotel symbolizes?

    ReplyDelete
  38. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  39. What do you think Amir is going to do when he has the meeting with the Talib? He can't just ask for Sohrab because that could make the Talibs angry and question why he wants a Haraza boy.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Jamie: i think the tree is pretty important and symbolizes the kids stting under the tree when they were young (beginning) of the book.

    ReplyDelete
  41. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ariel-
Amir refers his old house as Baba's house because he probably never felt really at home while growing up and he never had any intentions of living there.

    ReplyDelete
  43. On page 259 (the first page of chapter 21) Amir said, " I saw a dead body near the restaurant. There had been a hanging. A young man dangled from the end of a rope tied to a beam, his face puffy and blue, the cloths he'd worn on the last day of his life shredded, bloody. Hardly anyone seemed to notice him". This quote really opened up my eyes. I just realized how that kind of stuff like hangings and dead people are so common to the its like they are used to it and have adapted to seeing it or they just hide noticing. This depicts how brutal their country is. I cant Imagine what life would be like to walk down the seeing somebody's lifeless body hanging.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I wonder if they still do executions in the soccer stadium? If they do then thats really unethical.

    ReplyDelete
  45. On page 288 "There wasn't an Afghan in the world who didn't know at least a few jokes about the bumbling mullah." Do these jokes tie the true Afghanistan's together?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Alex B-
I think that Amir with adopt Sohrab and that is the reason that Amir and Soraya where not able to have a child.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Krysta,
I think it said on page 270 they were being executed for committing adultery.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Alex B~
At first I did think that Amir was going to adopt Sohrab, but now after he saw what he did in the soccer stadium I don't think that he wants to anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Why does the Taliban cause so mutch destruction to the people and the city? They seem like they have gone to extreme like by the way they buried the girl and the guy up to their chests and stoned them to death. Do they do this to have a curtain kinda power and control over the people?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Krysta
The blood stain can almost relate to all the people that have died. And all the violence that has taken place.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Why was the man blindfolded when executed, when the women was not?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Why do you think the Taliban choose the soccer stadium to kill all of their victims?

    ReplyDelete
  53. JennyL-
I think that the Talib won't let Amir take Sohrab from him just by asking him. I think the Talib will want something in return or Amir will have to take Sohrab by force.

    ReplyDelete
  54. On page 267 it says, "Maybe it was a hopeless place." Do you think that Amir is beginning to believe that it really is a hopeless place after seeing all the horrors in Kabul?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Jenny L-
I also agree that Amir and Soraya will end up adopting Sohrab because their situation has prepared them for that moment I think.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ariel-

Baba built that house, put a part of him into it, and created it with his two hands. in the nd, it will always be Baba's house

    ReplyDelete
  57. I think Amir is becoming more brave, he was a really scared person and he wouldn't stick up for himself and i think he is going to come out of his shell when he faces the taliban.

    ReplyDelete
  58. To answer Mrs. Leclaire's question, i think that Amir's personality is different because he feels guilty about not helping Hassan in the alley, so he is determined to find Sohrab.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Krysta
They choice to kill people there so everyone can see them killing people almost as a threat to other people.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Why did Amir end up going to the soccer game in the first place?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Jamie:

I think that the tree no longer makes fruit means the old Kabul Amir knew is dead. Figuratively if not yet literally.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Krysta:

I think the Taliban chose the soccer stadium because they knew there was going to be a lot of people, so they wanted to show them what happens if you interfere with the Taliban.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Krysta L-
They probably do their executions in the soccer stadium because it will strike more fear into the Afghans considering the stadium is filled with people. The Taliban wants to make a public display of what they can do.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Tyler-
I think so because there were people getting stoned to death and buildings destroyed and that makes the place seem pretty hopeless.

    ReplyDelete
  65. The Hero's journey
    Amir is following it.

    1. Lost Baba
    2. Crossed the threshold by coming back to Afghanistan.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Brendan-
They do things like stoning people to death in front of crowds to scare the population and make examples of the people they have killed. They do it to make sure no one tries to rise against them and no one does because the fear that they will have the same fate.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Timmy-
I think that the run down house symbolizes the city of Kabul. From Amir's point of view, Kabul was a great place to grow up but now when Amir returns, it is an awful awful place.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Alex:
I think he will because this will help him and Soraya's relationship since they've always wanted a child. Also, he wants to please Hassan and really try to fix all the things that have gone wrong between them. Sohrab is his only opportunity to fix what he has done.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Ms.Leclarie:i think Amir has changed in the way that he wants to redeem himself from when Hassan was raped and he didn't help, now he is determined .....connected to the hero clips we have been watching.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Krysta,
It might be because the soccer fields are really packed and a lot of people go to the games. They might have chosen to the fields to reach out to as many people as possible and show them possible consequences.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Jenny:

I think Farid is just trying to show Amir parts of Kabul- the soccer stadium.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Ariel-

I think the reason he refers to his old house as Baba's house is because im not sure he ever really felt at home their and even welcome by his own father in a way. It did cross my mind that maybe he says its Baba's house because Baba owned it but i think there is a more significant reason to why you refers to his old house as Baba's house.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Brendan~
I think that the Taliban cause so much destruction to the city because they want they power and to do that they need to put fear into the eyes of the Afghani people.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Alex B

Yes i think that Amir will have a child but not one of his own. It will most likely be Hassans son.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Jenny-
I think Amir went to the soccer game to see what went on in person he herd all the stories and wanted to see it himself.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Are the only good memories Amir has of his home are the memories about Hassan?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Jenny L-
Amir went to the soccer stadium in the first place because the man at the orphanage told Amir that the Taliban who took Sohrab would be there. Amir went in order to find Sohrab.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Do you think Amir feels like he has to find Sohrab, or is it his choice?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Tyler-
Do you think his run down house symbolizes anything else?

    ReplyDelete
  80. Alex
I dont think that Amir will have a child of his own. But he might adopt.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Tyler-
Yes I do think that he is starting to think there is no hope. Before he only heard about the troubles going on in his home country but going there and experiencing the damage, seeing how everything has changed in 25 years probably fills him with despair for his home country.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Brendan-
I think so because he really wasn't close to Baba so Hassan was was really the only other person he could remember.

    ReplyDelete
  83. On page 267, Amir and Farid say: "Why are you here"? "I told you." "For the boy"? "Yes for the boy." This shows that Amir really cares for Sohrab in my eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Brendan:
I think that they are the only good memories he has really. I mean, he has some good memories of Rahim Khan and some slight moments with Baba but almost all of the are with Hassan.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Nouhad E.-
I believe that Amir wants to redeem himself and get closure for hurting Hassan. This has stuck with him forever and this could be his way to fix it.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Brendan~
No I do not think that the only good memories he has of Afghanistan are of Hassan because after Amir won the kite fighting competition his father was very proud of him and that made him happy.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Timmy-
Yes, I also think that the run down home symbolizes Amir's life before getting married. Because after he was married, his life change from a positive to a negative life style.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Krysta-

The soccer stadium was chosen for the executions became it is a public place that will have many people there and its mainly to scare the people to do what they say or you will be executed or punished. Fear is a winner in war and although the taliban is not in a war with the civilians, they know that fear will keep the civilians following them.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Brad
i Agree with you i think Amir does care for him, alot because of hassan.

    ReplyDelete
  90. When the inner circle asked the question, "Why are all of
Amir's memory of his old house about Hassan?" I think it's because Hassan and Amir had really good times like kite running, sitting in the tree shinning the light into the neighbors house, reading under the pomegranate tree, playing in the snow and just growing up together. Plus, Hassan had been there for most of Amir's childhood.

    ReplyDelete
  91. -Jenny L
I think they went to the soccer game because maybe Amir needed a break from all the things and changes he hasn't been around for all the bad things that have happened to Afghanistan.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Brendan-
I think for the most part all of Amir's memories of home relate to Hassan because America is where Baba and Amir really bonded instead.Amir fought for Baba's love back home and America might have been where he received it.

    ReplyDelete
  93. On page 267 Amir is talking to Farid and he says "Sometimes I myself can hardly believe I'm here."

Why Is this so... Why cant Amir believe he is back home? Is it because he realizes how scary the Taliban are?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Id Amir does find Hassan's son, do you think that he will adopt him?

    ReplyDelete
  95. Do you think that soharb will end up being Amir's son?

    ReplyDelete
  96. Nouhad~
I think that Amir feels like he does have to find Sohrab because he was called to Afghanistan by Rahim Khan because he wanted Amir to go and find him as his last dying wish.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Ariel-
I think it's because he can't believe how much the place has changed.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Ariel:

I think Amir can't believe that he's back because he is shocked about what has happened to his country.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Tyler-
I agree, it symbolizes his life after the incident with Hassan in Afghanistan and before he married Soraya.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Ariel-
I think that it is also a shock to Amir because he can't believe he is facing his fears instead of backing down this time.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Sarah and Tyler: I think yes because Amir cares a lot for Sohrab and if he finds him I think he will adopt him.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Do you think Amir feels like he has to take in Hassan's son?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Brenden

I don't think that all of Amir's memories of his old home and childhood were Hassan but i just think that Amir is realizing how important a person Hassan was in his life... They were like brothers... They are brothers.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Ariel-
He probably can't believe that his home is now in ruins and for him to think that was where he played his whole life.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I just pulled this from wikipedia. one of the only people in power in favor of freedom and democracy, Ahmad Shah Massoud. he didnt require Burqa's, let women work, go to school, and personally stopped at leat two instances of forced marriage. The Taliban repeatedly offered Massoud a position of power in return for him stopping his resistance. Massoud declined. He was killed in a suicide attack a few days before 9/11.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Sarah

I think Amir should take in Hassan's sun because he owes him that.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Sarah

I don't think that Amir feels like he has to take Hassan's son, its just i think He feels like he owes Hassan that... Also he wants a son just cant have one.

    ReplyDelete
