  1. Why are books inside houses such a crime? And why would they make firefighters into people who would burn things instead of putting out fires?

  2. What caused society to ban all books?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Why do you think Ray Bradbury started the book out with all dark things, and then he sees a white, pale girl? In the book it says, "The object gave a dull clink and slid off in darkness. He stood very straight and listened to the person on the dark bed in the completely featureless night." (13 Bradbury)

  4. why do the fire fighters have to burn the books?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Peyton- They make them into people who burn books because in the book they are bad.

    ReplyDelete
  6. On page 18 Montag is just repeating words over and over again, why?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Peyton- I agree with you, I don't understand why a firefighter would burn something, but I guess that is the point of the story to make us wonder these things.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Do you think that Montag feels guilty for burning the books?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Why did Montags wife Mildred try to Kill herself?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Why was it montags job to start fires?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Brendan, maybe because she didn't like the society she was living in

    ReplyDelete
  12. Is Clarisse McClellan changing Montag's state of mind?

    ReplyDelete
  13. On page 20 what do you think they mean be having a third and fourth wall?

    ReplyDelete
  14. sully i think you had a very good inferance and i agree

    ReplyDelete
  15. I am confused, Who is Mildred? Montag's wife?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Timothy G- i think that they banned books because it like documents of the past and they did not want any one to know what happened in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Drew-
The Montags burn books because thats his job and he does what he is told.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Tyler- I do not think he feels bad for burning books, he seems like he is happy and enjoying it since it says he has a smile on his face.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Jenny-
It might be to add synthesis to the situation he is in.

    ReplyDelete
  20. "He stood looking p at the ventilator grille in the hall and suddenly remembered that something lay hidden behind the grille, something that seemed to peer down at him." Pg 10. Why was he so haunted by this? What's behind the grille?

    ReplyDelete
  21. What does Clarisse symbolize to Montag?

    ReplyDelete
  22. "Is it true that long ago firemen put out fires instead of going to start them? No. Houses have always been fireproof, take my word for it." ( 8 Bradbury). Why do you think he lied to Clarisse?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Is the reason Montag didn't know about how Firemen used to put out fires because they have destroyed books and information so there has been a lost of history with the knowledge that has been burned?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jamie-
I think so because before he liked burning books and now he is regretting it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. On page 27 Montag is freaking out about the hound, thinking that it is against him, "this isn't the first time it has threatened me. Last month it happened twice" (Bradbury). Why is he freaking out about this hound?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Tyler W- I don't think he feels guilty because that is his job, it is what he has to do. I don't think he realizes it is a bad thing because their view in this book is very different from ours.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Timmyyy, ya, they banned books because the past is way different then their present, ad maybe people would get mad because they burn books now n didnt then.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Do they burn books because someone does not want the society to have an advantage in some way?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Timmy, I think Clarisse symobolizes truth for him. She shows him a side of life that he misses.

    ReplyDelete
  30. -Alex B
    Mildred is Montag's Wife.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Jamie~
Yes I do think that Clarisse is changing his state of mind because now it seems like Montag is such a better person and is able to see the world differently now because of her.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Drew- It is Montag's job to start fires and burn the books because in their society that's what a fireman does.

    ReplyDelete
  33. tyler- i don't think he feels bad because he has never been told that it was not a good thing.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Pierce-
Montag might not have known that firemen used to put out fires. It sounds like people in this time have no idea what life was like before the start of burning books.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Why does Montag's wife try to commit suicide? (or what looked like it)And, why does she forget about it the next morning?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Why is there a mechanical hound?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Does the girl Clarisse remind Montag of himself when he was young because in the book when he was young it said he was like a mirror so does she remind him of himself when he was young?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Pierce M - I don't know if he knows that firemen once put out fires. If he does, he doesn't want her to know for the same reason they don't want people to have books which I still don't know.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Do you think Clarisse is reading and thats why her outlook on life is so different and optimistic?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Tyler:
I agree with Sarah, because his job is to burn the books, and he never had any background knowledge about when the time period that books were at a time, "good" so he had no knowledge he was doing anything wrong. It truly didn't even know firefighters ever put fires out until Clarisse

    ReplyDelete
  41. Do you think that Mildred has some sort problem because after she tries to kill herself she is asked about it and she doesn't remember a thing.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Brendan- i was wondering the same thing i don't really understand that either i think he is just interested in being around her because he cant really read her.

    ReplyDelete
  43. sara- i don't think that is why the burn books. i think that some books have told stories of what has happened and they created this society because they don't like that past so they most likely just burn them to stop them for getting the idea they could be alot more free

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sarah-
I think that books are banned because the government doesn't was the society to be educated to a certain extent. I agree with you because I don't think the government wants the society to have an advantage an take over.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Brendan-
I think the mirror symbolizes that Montag used to be similar to Clarisse when he was younger.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I don't understand why this reality has come about. Why has society decided to burn all the books. Was it one person's decision to do this or did everybody think all the books should be destroyed.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Tyler-
I think she tried to commit suicide because she didn't like that the firemen were burning book and she didn't want to be apart of that.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Krysta, I think that she has an actual mental issue that causes her to forget things because Montag regularly brings up things that Mildreds forgotten.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Krysta L. I would assume she does, like with the pills, she most likely has a problem that she doesn't like or is making her want to take more and more pills to kill herself.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Do you think there society is effected with out books?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Jessie-
Yes I think that Clarisse is reading or someone in her family is, telling her about what they learned. She seems to know things from the past that no one else knows and that is the only way I can think that Clarisse would things.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Jessie S-
Now that I think about it yes, I do think that Clarisse is reading in private. She does ask Montag questions about why they burn books and not let people enjoy their life.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Clarisse is so normal because she reads books and doenst burn them

    ReplyDelete
  54. Jessie S- Yes, I do believe she is reading because she seems to know more than Montag and finds more joy in everyday things than he does. Her family is also different so I bet they have a secret stash of books.

    ReplyDelete
  55. In the book Clarisse reminds me of Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. This is because of her curious nature and her very positive attitude on life.

Here is a picture to help remind some of you who she is:

    ReplyDelete
  56. Bryce-
I think they burn book so the people aren't educated and so they won't over through the government.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Krysta, i think she had to be on something such as drugs because in order to not remember attempting suicide you would have-to be in some uncontious state of mind

    ReplyDelete
  58. I agree with jessie i think she really does have mental issues.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Sarah~
No I do not think that their society is affected without book because nobody really knows what life is like with them.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Is suicide a huge issue because they took away literature?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Jessie S.-
I also agree with you and believe that Mildred has a mental problem, but why does she seem mean to Montag? It seems like she is not a genuine person.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Jessie s.
That is a really good thought, and actually I had thought the same thing when I was reading this. I believe that she probably is secretly reading and then thats why she knows so much information on the past. She knows a lot more than everyone else, which I think could very possibly show that she knows what she is talking about, this is also ironic because she uses the things that still occur today so we can conclude that she knows what she is talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Why would they not want there society to have books, even if they were allowed i do not see how it would make a difference?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Shmeds- I dont see how suicide and not reading books is related really...

    ReplyDelete
  65. sarah- well i think that is not really effected with out books because they really don't know what they can tell them. I think if they would read books all the time and then just taken away then it would effect them.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Sarah, In our society most of our history is in books. So without books it seems like they would lose a lot of their history.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Garett- That is a very good observation, I totally agree. They both have very positive attitudes towards life.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Why do you think Clarisse's family are such rule breakers or maybe just her uncle because she kept saying how her uncle got jailed for one thing or another? What seperates her family from everyone else?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Krysta-
I do think she has a mental problem or some issue for her not to remember what she did, but I am not sure exactly what her problem is.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Why does Mildred always having sounds like bees buzzing in her ears?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Garrett, I totally agree. I pictured Luna as this character the whole time.
Jamie, I don't think shes necessarily mean to him. She maybe is a bit frustrated because she can't remember what he is talking about. Forgetting that you attempted suicide would be extremely unnerving.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Jenny- I think she hears buzzing in her ears, because she has lots of problems, and is a little crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  73. JennyL- I think it probably has something to do with the mental issue and the medication she is taking.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Brad,
It could though considering all they do is watch t.v. Books are something that open your eyes to the world that you aren't able to experience and it builds up creativity. Without a solid imagination life would be sort of depressing.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Jenny,
I think that she is in the same position kind of like the short story we read yesterday. It seems to me that she is either crazy or something like that. Just because she doesn't really show that she is stable by trying to kill herself and plus the sounds like bees buzzing in her ears.

    ReplyDelete
  76. brendan- i think that the a rebel because he has lived free and maybe he does not like the idea of having to be so strictly watched all the time

    ReplyDelete
  77. Brendan- I think there family is so different because they dont want to be the same as everyone else, or they dont want to be controlled.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Brendan- I believe what separates her family from others is that they have access to books and are learning more about the past. This knowledge gives them more insight and imagination.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Jenny-
Maybe the buzzing in her ears are a distraction from her suicide-like thoughts.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I agree with alex and sarah jenny, i think she is hearing certain stuff because she is on some meds that are messing with her head

    ReplyDelete
  81. Brendan-
I think they just want to let everyone know that what they are doing is wrong and the other people need to know that. I also think that they are the people that don't agree with anything the government does and they want other people to follow them.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Shmeds- I think that reading books doesn't help imagination that much. I mean, you picture what your reading as you read, but i get a kick with my imagination from tv too!

    ReplyDelete
  83. i think tv and technology stops todays reading

    ReplyDelete
  84. On page 27, Montag is asked if he has a guilty conscience about something and that is why the hound maybe doesn't like him. What do you think that he could have a guilty conscience from?

    ReplyDelete
  85. JennyL, I do not really understand what the buzzing in their ears is, but i think it has something to do with sleeping. When the operator came to Montag's house when he had to leave he said, " Just had another call on the old ear thimble." This makes me believe that it has something to do with the way people sleep in this world.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Technology is changing, look, you have nooks now instead of books!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Does anyone else get the feeling that Clarrisa's family reads?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Brendan- I think that Clarisse and her family are such rule breakers because they have the access to books like Timothy said earlier. Her uncle went to jail because he probably got caught reading a book.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Krysta-
Maybe Montag has become guilty about his job ever since Clarisse has talked to him.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I agree that most people don't like to read anymore. There are so many other things to today than read.
