  39. Even though Amir's father is baba, does he act like a father figure to him?

    ReplyDelete
  40. How does Baba's actions affect the way Amir a acts?

    ReplyDelete
  41. 1. When Baba makes all the decisions about specifically, the orphanage and the marriage to Sofia Akrami, just because he was considered a "lower class" person why does everyone expect him to be "not worthy" (best word that i can come up with)?

    2. What makes Hassan's mother, Sanaubar think she is so superior over Ali?

    3. In chapter 3, Amir is so unhappy about Hassan joining them with him camping, any emotions through the rest of the chapter also give why he would be so unhappy?

    ReplyDelete
  42. 1. Why does Amir dislike Hassan spending time with Baba? For Example Amir states " Baba asked me to fetch hassan too, but i lied and told him Hassan had the runs. I wanted Baba all to myself."

2.Who is Mullah Fatiullah Khan ahy doesn't Baba like him?

3.Why are Hassan and Amir so close??

    ReplyDelete
  43. matt- i think that it almost seems like baba is distant from his son, but i dont think it is that he does not have time for him.

    ReplyDelete
  44. In response to Molly L's question #1, I think Baba alienates himself from Amir because he doesn't have a wife helping him raise Amir, he is sure or many things. I don't think he he meaning to aleinate himslef, I think he just isn't realizing what he is doing.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I agree with Peyton and Alex in the way that maybe Amir doesn't refer of Hassan as a friend because of the gap between different social classes.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Brady:

    1. Hassan's dad is Ali and his mom is Sanaubar.
    2. I think the red kites symbolize Hassan and Amir's friendship, and how they are close, even though Amir is more in the upper class, and Hassan is more in the lower class.
    3. This story is taking place in Kabul.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Connor's second question:
From what I have heard about Afghanistan, it seems that religion is a huge part of their lifestyle. It is so influential and demanding. It's something they have all grown up with and they definitely plan their lives according to the prayer schedule.

    ReplyDelete
  48. In response to Ryan H. question
"Why does Amir treat Hassan as a friend but only when there's no one else around?"
I think Amir only acts like a friend when no one else is there because he is of lower class and a different religion. I think that he might also think of Hassan this way because he sees Baba and Ali's relationship and since Baba does not call Ali his friend, Amir does not consider Hassan a friend.

    ReplyDelete
  49. kyle- Yes i think that when his dad has grown up time he does feel like he is being left out. Because he does not really know what is every going on, or what they are talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Sarah- I agree Baba is distant from his son, but he isn't realizing it in some ways. He is a single father and maybe confused at some times.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I agree with Alex B why Amir's father alienates himself from Amir because he lost his wife, but maybe it is also because Amir is so much more different than Baba. Does Baba have any guilt?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ariel:

    1. I think Amir is jealous how Baba is spending time with someone who is not his own son.

    3. I think Hassan and Amir are close because they kind of grew up with each other, and they have lived together for so long, so they created a strong relationship together.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Sarah had mentioned the factor of jealousy between a Amir and Hassan. Each boy wants something the other has. Hassan wants friendship and wealth while Amir wants the athleticism of Hassan. Hassan is able to go after what he wants by being Amir's friend rather than what Amir is doing, and try to separate himself from what he can't achieve.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Jeremy- It almost does not seem like he even notices that much, of the way he treats his son, so i do not think that it affects him.

    ReplyDelete
  55. In response to Drew's question, i believe that religion does affect peoples opinions but does not all the time. The reason it mostly affects peoples opinions is because religions have some beliefs and and basically forced those beliefs if you want to get to the after life; for example Christiano don't believe in evolution where some people do therefore the religion changes their opinion because they believe there is a god if im making any sense at all. In short and simplified, region does affect peoples opinions because to get to the after life they are almost have the opinions and beliefs the religion was founded on forced onto them.

    ReplyDelete
  56. In response to Alex's first question:
I was also wondering the same thing. He seems to be successful and well respected but he was still doubted. I think that it might be that Baba did not start of as well of a respected home so he had to make the name for himself and people obviously never thought he could do it.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hey Brendan why do you think Amir looks up to Baba so much?

    ReplyDelete
  58. In response to Sarah's question maybe "grown up time" is when Baba and his associates talk about important business information or maybe they are talking about Amir and discussing what to do about him. They could also be discussing something illegal maybe a plot to do something that they don't want Amir to know that they are doing.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Nathan K:

I think that Baba makes Hassan and Ali live in the hut in the back because they are servants, and they are considered lower class.

    ReplyDelete
  60. In response to Brennan, I don't think Baba resents Amir, he just doesn't understand why he is not like him. I think it is hard for him to realize that he is more like his mom than his dad.

    ReplyDelete
  61. i think they are very good freinds

    ReplyDelete
  62. Bryce- to answer your question i think that Amir looks up to baba because baba in a sence kinda ignores him and i think that is why amir wants attention that he is not able to get from his father that is also why when his dad hangs out with his friends amir wants to be part of it but his dad rejects him

    ReplyDelete
  63. In response to Alex, i agree that Amir thinks of Hassan as a far person because they are in different social classes like Jamie said.

    ReplyDelete
  64. in response to jeremy's question i don't think he likes soccer because he is not very atheletic.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Ariel
    1. I think Amir is mad at Baba for not spending time with his son.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Nouhad- I agree that Amir is jealous of Hassan because of his talents and Baba seems to appreciate that more in Hassan, but is Baba worried about his company?

    ReplyDelete
  67. religion isn't based upon race. each race might have a religion that is believed in or practiced by a large percent but each person can believe what they want and practice what they want

    ReplyDelete
  68. Alex: guilt is something that can relate back to religion or spirituality. People have guidelines for their lives that help make their decisions whether they know it or not.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Jessica: I think Amir acts somewhat mean because Baba doesnt show him the affection that he wants, but yes I think it is a cause and effect kind of situation.

    ReplyDelete
  70. In response to Jeremy's question maybe Baba feals like Amir should learn things on his own because maybe Baba's father wasn't there for him much in his childhood.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Baba does not show him much affection in my opinion because his wife died giving birth to Amir so I feel he resents him.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Jessica,
I do think Amir's action is related to Baba and Amir's relationship, because that is how Amir grew up, pretty much on his own, so it would be hard to learn the right way or the wrong way to act, in any case.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Matt J.
I think that Baba does ignore Amir on purpose because I think that Baba is ashamed of Amir for not being athletic and his definition of what a man should be

    ReplyDelete
  74. Ariel: Hassan and Amir are really close because they have grown up together and they knew each other before Amir even started going to school.

    ReplyDelete
  75. When Jessica started off and asked if the way Baba treats Amir has an impact I believe it does and that might be why he reads and writes so much it may be a way for him to escape and actually think things over with out needing and wanting his fathers approval. When Alex asked why Baba was always being doubted, it said that everyone expected him to follow in is fathers footsteps not to be a business owner.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I think a big part of growing up (as a boy) is trying to please and learn from your father. Sons cherish moments such as the one with Baba and Amir about sins. this applies doubly so when their fathers are distant. they learn to value every moment, and cherish it. a fathers approval is worth more than anything at a young age.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Ryan and Ariel: I think they have been close there who lives even when they were babys Hassans first word was Amir.

    ReplyDelete
  78. He wants amir to act like him because baba likes hassan and wants amir to be like him. Hassan is like the son, he shows more affection to hassan rather then amir, his own son.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Jessica, I feel that the relationship between Baba and Amir is weak because Baba doesn't make any time for Amir and admits that he is disappointed in him.

Jenny, I feel like as a father Baba thinks that they should have lots in common and like Brendan said, "Baba wants him to carry on his legacy."

    ReplyDelete
  80. Timmy-
Like I said when I was in the middle, its kind of a class thing, we dont really specific know that Amir has something strongly against him, but just a thought would be that Amir doesn't want to go around hanging out with (that poor kid who lives in my back yard...) - as if in the words of Amir. This makes me think of this so many things because thats kind of how it is today.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Jenny-
I think Baba wants Amir to act like him because when Baba is talking to Rahim Kahn, Rahim says "you're angry because you're afraid he'll never take over the buisness for you." So maybe Baba almost needs Amir to act like him to take over the buisness.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Molly L to answer your question of How religion effects Hassan and Amirs friendship... I thought that since Hassan is a different religion then Amir and a lower class then him, that Amir thinks of Hassan as a servant and uses him.. Also I noticed that Amir gets really jealous of Baba and Hassan's relationship. For example Amir lied to Baba about Hassan being sick.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Brennen: That's a really good point so why is that Amir doesn't think of Hassan as a friend?

    ReplyDelete
  84. In response to Brendans question~
I don't think that Baba treats Ali badly I think that that is just how Baba's personality is.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Brennan, I sort of agree with the fact that he might not like him too much because of th fact that he killed his wife, but I also think it's because they have nothing in common and I feel like thats why he doesn't seem to care.

    ReplyDelete
  86. When Connor M is talking about the only sin being theft and how Baba is forcing that idea on Amir, I think that is because Baba might have had that idea forced on him when he was growing up. Baba wants Amir to think the same things, act the same way, and believe the same things as him. Baba can't accept the fact that Amir is way different than he is.

    ReplyDelete
  87. In response to Timmy's question, "On page 17 when Baba says, "there is only one sin, only one. And that is theft", what does he mean?"
I think this means that no matter what crime you commit, it is in some way, theft. Like Baba explains, if you kill, you are robbing a child of a father and so on. This could foreshadow something later on in the book so this could be a very important quote.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Ryan:I think he does but hes ashamed to addmit it

    ReplyDelete
  89. I agree Tyler W, it could foreshadow some sort of theft sin. I predict that Hassan is going to be killed.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Good prediction Timmy. I agree with your idea because it almost seems like each chapter is building up and pretty soon, something mind bottling is going to happen.

    ReplyDelete
