Why is Amir hiding the truth from everyone who asks him about Hassan?
ReplyDeleteHassan can "read" Amir because you don't have to be able to read to feel emotions
ReplyDeleteDoes Amir feel guilty about what happened to Hassan?
ReplyDeleteOne of my questions is in chapter 8 why does Amir not want to spend time with Hassan anymore but Hassan is willing to?
ReplyDeleteTyler W-
ReplyDeleteAmir hides the truth because he is a coward. He can't forgive himself for not acting when the incident happened.
I think that the two aren't connected that much but it may but Amir a little bit because he can do it so well and he can't really hide anything
ReplyDeleteAmir is frustrated with the fact that Hassan is wise and can really understand others while Amir goes to school and really studies hard.
ReplyDeleteIn response to Tyler's question:
ReplyDeleteI think Amir doesn't want to be blamed for what happened to Hassan, because he didn't help his friend.
Does Rahim Khan know what happened to Hassan in the ally because he signals Amir to talk to him?
ReplyDeletetyler: i think he wants to hide his emotions form everyone and he might think people will judge him for not helping Hassan.
ReplyDeleteI think Amir feels ashamed at the fact that he didn't try and help Hassan.
ReplyDeleteAmir just feels very guilty how he watched Amir get raped. I think the worst part is that Amir knows Hassan knows that he just watched.
ReplyDeleteAlex B-
ReplyDeleteI think the reason Amir doesn't want to spend time with Hassan is because he watched what happened in the alley way but Hassan doesn't know that he saw.
Tyler-
ReplyDeleteAmir is probably hiding the truth about Hassan because he doesn't want to admit that he didn't do anything and bringing it back into mind wouldn't be the best thing right now.
is Amir going to confront Hassan about what happened?
ReplyDeleteSarah G
ReplyDeleteI think that he does feel guilty but I think that he is also ashamed about it because he know that he should have tried to stop Assef but he choose not to.
Sarah- I think Amir regrets it alot, but also I don't think he knew what to do in a situation like that. He didn't want to see his friend get hurt.
ReplyDeleteTyler- I think Amir is hiding the truth because he doesn't want to be questioned why he didn't help him or was he there with him.
Why did Amir not go in and help Hassan although he knew that Hassan would have gone in and helped him? But does this have any form of significance?
ReplyDeleteAlex B:
ReplyDeleteI think Amir doesn't want to spend time with Hassan because he is embarrassed for Hassan, and he doesn't want Hassan to ask him why he didn't help him.
Amir doesn't want to bring up what happened in the alley way with Hassan because of the guilt he has about it. Amir knows he should have stepped in and yet he just stood there and witnessed it. By not helping, he is just as guilty as the man who committed the crime.
ReplyDeleteHello guys!
ReplyDeleteAmir doesn't like the fact that Hassan can always tell what he is feeling, but he also sort of likes having someone understand him.
Amir is in a horrible situation. you see, he has too little courage, and too much of a conscience. he does nothing when the situation needs him to, and he knows it, he knows what he could have stopped. and it KILLS him, so much so that he cant look Hassan in the eyes.
ReplyDeleteSarah-
ReplyDeleteYes, I think Amir feels guilty about what happened to Hassan because there is a high chance that if Amir had barged in, Hassan would have not been raped and Amir and Hassan might have been able to escape.
I agree with Garret (sorry if I spell it wrong) because Hassan and Amir still could build back up to the relationship they had before, it could just take time
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteSarah- I don't think Amir will ever confront Hassan about it. Right after it happened they had a little confrontation about it, but I don't think either are willing to discuss what happened that day.
ReplyDeleteSarah: i don't think he will end up confronting Hassan because (like Timmy said) he's a coward and hides his emotions and dosn't want to confront his emotions and talk about it. I think they will just end up growing further and further away , as friend.
ReplyDeleteAmir wouldn't speak up when Assef was putting on a face and acting like a friend to Baba, why do you think he wouldn't confront Assef?
ReplyDeleteJenny: I agree. Maybe this is just another ability Hassan has that Amir is jealous of.
ReplyDeleteTo add to Timmy's thought I think that Amir is scared that people are going to get mad at him and think of him as a bad friend.. Also Amir in Chapter 7 states that he would have helped Amir but he was scared of what Assef would do to him.
ReplyDeleteWhy would Amir even think about wanting to get new servants because even though he does feel ashamed he has lives his whole life with Hassan and should love him no matter what.
ReplyDeleteTyler-
ReplyDeleteI think Amir doesn't want to admit that he saw Hassan get raped ally.
Jamie:
ReplyDeletethere is no necessarily any information that tells us that Rahim Khan saw anything. Although he didn't praise Amir much when Amir had won the kite flying contest.
Peyton:
ReplyDeleteI think Amir didn't help Hassan because he was afraid that the same thing would happen to Amir. Also, i think that Amir was too scared to help Hassan, and he didn't care what was happening to a lower-class citizen, and he thinks that Hassan deserved it.
What would hassan do if he knew that Amir watched him get raped and did not try to stop it? would he say anything to Amir about it?
ReplyDeleteWhat would you do if you were in Amir's position?
ReplyDeleteWhy is Assef so obsessed with Hitler?
ReplyDelete(When he gives Amir a Hitler biography)
How come when Hassan is getting raped Amir keeps referring to dreams and memories?
ReplyDeleteKrysta:
ReplyDeleteAmir is soooo ashamed of not going in and helping Hassan I think. Like when he was throwing the Pomegranates at him, he wanted Hassan to return the hard favor of hurting Amir such as Amir has done to Hassan.
sarah: I think being the person Hassan is , HE WOULD confront Amir and talk about the situation
ReplyDeleteI don't think that Hassan is just respectful to Amir because he HAS to be I think he does because that is the type of person he is. On page 93 when Amir throws pomegranates at him Hassan did not throw a pomegranate at Amir; He opened it and crushed it against his own forehead."
ReplyDeleteKrysta:
ReplyDeleteI think Amir would like new servants because every time he would look at Hassan, he remembers the day that he just stepped aside. Continuing to live with Hassan is like living with the guilt of your past and he just wants to forget about it even though it is near to impossible.
Peyton- I think that's why Amir regrets it the most because he knows Hassan would have helped him. I think he also was worried for his own safety.
ReplyDeleteTimothyG
ReplyDeleteAmir wont confront Assef because i don't think he wants Assef to realize he knows what went down. if Assef knew that Amir saw him rape Hassan he might think Amir can get him in trouble.
Do you think if Amir had told Baba what had happened, would he treat Assef the same?
ReplyDeletePeyton~
ReplyDeleteI think that he didn't go and help Hassan even though he knows that he would go and help him is because maybe he thought that if he went into that alley Assef would have maybe done the same thing to him or he was just to scared to do anything.
Amir wishes he had something to get mad at Hassan about, so he pelts him, he wants to be punished for not stepping in, for not doing anything. but he got away with it. nobody knew, and he is at the mercy of his own guilt, the real tragedy. he wants Hassan to hate him, if only to make him hate himself less.
ReplyDeleteTyler-
ReplyDeleteI think Assef is so obsessed with Hitler so much because he likes the way he acts and wants to live like him.
Timmy-
ReplyDeleteI think that Amir did not have the courage to confront Assef about the rape because he is afraid that the same might happen to him if he opens his mouth about what really happened to Baba or someone else of importance.
ryan-
ReplyDeleteIf i were in Amir's position i would be really unsure of what i should do, or if i should bring it up or just leave it alone. But then i would feel really guilty if i ignored it,
Tyler W-
ReplyDeleteAssef is obsessed with Hitler because it relates to classes. Hitler wanted to get rid of Jews and Assef wants to get rid of Hazaras (like Hassan and Ali). Assef strongly agrees with social and religious classes.
Jenny- I was confused when Hassan threw the pomegranite in his own face, why did he do that?
ReplyDeleteAriel:
ReplyDeleteI think that the reasoning behind it was because it gave the actually image instead of just saying "Hassan got rapped" the lamb reference really shows what Hassan's face looked like and then it was more of a explanation and then breaks the heart of the reader even more.
Hey Tyler! I think that Assef is obsessed with Hitler because he's like his hero. He got rid of all the people that he did not like and Assef has made it very clear that he does not like people like Hassan.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Peyton Amir wants Hassan to Hurt him in a way kind of like a punishment for not standing up for him in the alley and just watching.
ReplyDeleteWhy does Hassan not go to school?
ReplyDeleteSarah- i do not think that amir will tell Hassan because it would destroy there friendship
ReplyDeleteTyler W-
ReplyDeleteAssef is obsessed with Hitler because Assef is german, and all this is happening I think a little after world war II happened, so Assef might be fascinated by the way Hitler had control over people, so he might admire him
Tyler:
ReplyDeleteI think Assef is obsessed with Hitler because of his mindset. His character is obviously messed up and Hitler's ideas just feed his insane drive. I think he likes the idea of power.
Ryan H to respond to your question of what would I do if i was in Amirs position.. I would have helped Hassan because although he is a servant he would still be my friend and hes like a brother to me. I also believe that it would have been less painful to take the beating from Assef and not have to go through the pain of seeing my friend get raped.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Assef did it to be proven as gay, I think it was just to show power to Hassan, and show how much better he is than Hassan ever will be.
ReplyDeleteAmir refers to himself as the monster that polls Hassan to the bottom of the lake like in Hassan's dream, what does he mean? Is it because he let Hassan suffer even though Hassan would protect Amir? What did Amir poll Amir away from?
ReplyDeleteEven though something horrible happened to Hassan why is Amir mean to Ali on page 81? Nothing happened to him.
ReplyDeleteKrysta:
ReplyDeleteI think Hassan doesn't go to school because he is a servant, and he doesn't have time to learn. He probably never went to school when he was little.
Alex- I'm not 100% sure why he threw it at his own face but I think he did it to show Amir that he is not going to fall into his trap, and he is going to remain loyal to Amir to matter what.
ReplyDeleteTyler-
ReplyDeletei agree with you i think that he likes Hitler so much and wants to be in control of how Hitler was.
SarahS-
ReplyDeleteI think if Amir told Baba about Hassan than Baba might feel a little sorry for Hassan but he wont change much.
Krysta- I think Hassan doesn't go to school because he is in the lower class. Amir goes because he is wealthy.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jessie. I think that Assef rapes Hassan because it makes him feel like he has power over Hassan.
ReplyDeleteTyler:
ReplyDeleteIn the previous chapter Assef really rants about why he LOVES Hitler. He thinks that Hitler was a great leader by getting rid of the Jews and the "impurities" and he wants the new President to be like Hitler and make everyone more perfect. "A better place now."
What do you think Hassan would do if he knew Amir was there when he got raped?
ReplyDeleteAriel-
ReplyDeleteSo knowing what you would do in that situation, why do you think Amir just sat there and didn't do anything.
What do you think Hassan's reaction was when he served drinks to Assef and his friends at Amir's birthday party?
ReplyDeleteAlex-(and Jenny)
ReplyDeleteI think Hassan smashed the pomegranate into his own face to show his loyalty to Amir, and how he will never hurt Amir
Krysta L-
ReplyDeleteHassan doesn't get the privilege of going to school because he is a lower class servant (Hazara).
sara: if Amir told Baba then he might have a little guilt or might be a little sad but being the person Baba is nothing would change his feelings toward Hassan
ReplyDeleteAssef's actions show that he may be hiding some "feelings", but its more likely that he is a power hungry psychopath. he knew that this would be the kind of "punishment" that would stick with him for years. for him, this was the perfect display of superiority and dominance. some things ascend sexual preferences.
ReplyDeletenathan k
ReplyDeletei agree with you i think that if Amir told Baba he would pretend like nothing happened and ignore it.
Nouhad- If Hassan knew he was there, I think it would ruin their friendship because friends are supposed to be there for eachother and Hassan would always wonder why Amir didn't help him. Was it because if his class??
ReplyDeleteSarah I agree! But I don't really understand why Amir threw pomergrantes at Hassan in the first place. I mean it was kind of rude.
ReplyDeleteIf Amir and Hassan were the same religion I think they would be able to relate more considering how important religion is for their culture.
ReplyDeleteDOES HASSAN KNOW THAT AMIR SAW HIM GET RAPED?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jenny in why Hassan threw the pomegrante in his own face. I think that he is trying to show Amir that he doesn't live his life for him and he is his own person.
ReplyDeleteJamie B.-
ReplyDeleteI agree that Amir might have thought that telling Hassan would ruin their friendship, but isn't Amir ignoring Hassan even making the relationship worse? At least if Amir told Hassan, then Hassan would at least know the reason for Amir's actions.
I like how Hassan feels so loyal to Amir that he wouldn't give Assef the kite and he suffered consequences for doing so. That is a real Friend.
ReplyDeleteAlex B:
ReplyDeleteI think Amir didn't help Hassan because he was a servant, and because Amir didn't want to get hurt.
Nouhad-
ReplyDeleteI think Hassan would be proud and happy at Amir if he stopped Assef from raping his friend.
Nouhad- i do not think that Hassan would say anything to amir but would stay way from Amir more often
ReplyDeleteKrysta-
ReplyDeleteI think Hassan doesn't go to school because he is classified as "not worthy" of being taught, since all he is seen as is a servant. Kind of like in the early years of America, African-Americans had poor education and worked as slaves for American people.
Alex:
ReplyDeleteHassan did that because he thought Amir wanted to be more superior over him. Then when Amir was firing away with the Pomegranates then I think he felt even more belittled and wanted to make Amir happy, which i think that is his ultimate goal.
Nouhad:
ReplyDeleteI think that he wouldn't be able to look at him. Just to know that someone could have helped and chose not is extremely frustrating. Especially since Hassan had been serving Amir his whole life and the one time he really needed him he chose not to.
Tyler- I think Hassan was very uncomfortable when he had to serve Assef. He was raped by Assef and it would be very uncomfortable to to serving someone who raped you.
ReplyDeleteTimmy
ReplyDeletei dont think Hassan knows at all. Because if he knew i think he would act alot different with him. or mad. Unless he does not want to talk about it.
Timmy- I'm not sure if Hassan knows that Amir saw him get raped but I'm pretty sure that Hassan knows that Amir knows something happen that night. Hassan is able to read Amir so well it would be nearly impossible for him not to know.
ReplyDeleteJessie s: i agree , i think if they were the same religion then they would connect more and i think Amir would have jumped in and helped or even after it , im sure Amir would confront Hassan abut it.
ReplyDeleteTimmy~
ReplyDeleteI do not think that Hassan knows that Amir saw him getting raped because I think that if he did he would have confronted Amir about it and maybe asked why he didn't help him. And if he did I feel that Hassan would not be trying to be nice to Amir like he is doing in the book.
Timmy-
ReplyDeleteNo, I think that if Hassan knew Amir saw him get raped then Hassan would be very disappointed in Amir and would most likely not talk to Amir again. And even after the rape, Hassan wants to hang out with Amir even more. But it is a matter of time before Hassan does figure out Amir watched him get raped.
Why do you think that Baba has so much more respect for Hassan then Amir, although Hassan is his own servant and he even had a cleft lip? I mean Amir is his own flesh and blood!
ReplyDeleteConnor,
ReplyDeleteYou spelled my name wrong.
Jenny L-
ReplyDeleteI think that Amir threw the pomegranate at Hassan because he wanted Hassan to throw one back and Amir thought that would help him cope with his guilt.
Will Amir ever forgive himself for the action he didn't take?
ReplyDeleteIf Amir feels so bad about Hassan getting raped then why in chapter 8 is he so mean to Hassan?
ReplyDeletewhy is Amir willing to let hassan surfer for Baba approval
ReplyDeleteShouldn't Baba love Amir because he is his son? and Why does it matter if they have nothing in common?
ReplyDeleteAmir, lacking a mother, craves approval from Baba. he feels as if his father blames him for his mothers death, and that Hassan is stealing attention away from him. that, and his petty desires to have some evidence of his superior class, are his downfall.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think that Assef said: "And there's nothing sinful about teaching a lesson to a disrespectful donkey." (Hosseini 75)
ReplyDeletei think Amir doesn't relieve that Baba does him.
ReplyDeleteTimmy-
ReplyDeleteI do not think Amir will ever forgive himself for what he did and Amir is just digging himself in a hole that will be hard to get out of.
