  1. What role do you think Clarisse will play later in the book?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Is Montag changing his perspective on his job and society? It says, "Now it plunged the book back under his arm..." Also, why did he take the book?

    ReplyDelete
  3. I think she will come in later and will play a role in convincing Montag to quit his job as burning books. Not really sure to be honest.

    ReplyDelete
  4. What is the ventilator grille, and what does it symbolize?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Timmy-
I think that Clarisse will cause Montag to rebel against the burning of the books.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Timmyyy-I think she is going to change the book by being like the ice breaker with people liking and not liking books, basing that off of what she has said at the beginning of the book.

    ReplyDelete
  7. When Montag took the book from the house he burned down and read it, is this the first time he has read a book (illegally)?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Pierce
I think he's definitely regretting the fact that he is a fireman. Clarisse has almost opened his eyes to the fact that society is corrupt so now he really doesn't enjoy the life he's leading.

    ReplyDelete
  9. What does Clarisse mean to Montag?

    ReplyDelete
  10. I think that the vent Montag is nervous about maybe has books inside that he has taken from peoples homes.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Do you think that since the Mechanical Hound is always capitalized it symbolizing something?

    ReplyDelete
  12. At first when I was reading up to page 28 I found myself questioning why Clarisse McClellan was so different and so smart and then I found out she doesn't wanna be like people her age. As it states on page 30. "I'm afraid of children my own age."

    ReplyDelete
  13. Pierce-
I think Montag's perspective on his job has changed because of Clarisse and telling him about the past and how useful it was with books.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Does Montag think that burning books is wrong now?

    ReplyDelete
  15. In the book Montag doesn't seem fully in love with his wife, do you think that it occurred from Clarisse or was Montag never in love with his wife?

    ReplyDelete
  16. @Sarah, Simply I think she is a daughter figure to Montag.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Pierce- I think Montag is changing his perspective because when the firemen are starting the fire in the lady's house, they dont care if she gets out or not and Montag is trying to get her to get out of the house so she doesn't die. He is trying to help her even though she was reading books.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Nouhad,
I think the ventilator holds some sort of secret. Personally I believe there are books behind it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Pierce M - Yes I believe that Clarisse has helped him change his perspective. Montag questions his fellow firefighters asking, "Didn't firemen prevent fires rather than stoke them up and get them going?" (Bradbury 34). He's beginning to ask things that make it seem like he has books or likes them.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Jenny:

I think that the Mechanical Hound is just a name, so that may be why it's capitalized.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Timmy- I think that Bradbury is going to take Clarisse away- just because of the "threat to society" she possesses.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Why do you think so many people try to commit suicide in this society?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Sarah
I think right now Clarisse is a daughter figure to Montag.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sarah- I think that Clarisse is symbolic of Montag's inner wants and thoughts of rebellion stuffed deep inside his brain without him fully realizing what he wants.

    ReplyDelete
  25. What does society mean to be anti social because it seems like Clarisse is not anti social at all? Its says, "I'm antisocial, they say. I don't mix. It's so strange. I'm very social indeed. It all depends on what you mean by social, doesn't it?" (Bradbury 29).

    ReplyDelete
  26. @sarah, I think that Montag is finally realizing that burning books is useless and is wrong. He realizes that people should be able to do what they want.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sarah-
I think Montag will be more hesitant when they have to go and burn down the house but I don't think he will stop completely.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Connor-
I don't think so, I think that he is hiding another book in the ventilator.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Peyton- I think that montag was in love with his wife but i think that he likes Clarisse better.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Sarah-

I think that after Montag met Clarisse, she showed him in a way that burning books is wrong, so i think he won't burn anymore books, or he will quit his job.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Tyw,

I agree that Montag will rebel against burning books because every time Montag is with Clarisse hes happy and he feels like hes free and almost a real person, he hates being bad and having a sick personalty.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ariel- I agree because she seems so free-spirited and portrays nothing at all that the government wants for children now, and now we know she doesn't go to school.

    ReplyDelete
  33. On page 32, they briefly mention the war has begun. Who is the war being fought by and what are their motives? Also, why isn't it a big deal to the fireman?

    ReplyDelete
  34. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Timmy.
I think Clarisse will cause a rebellion and she will show people that books should be read.

    ReplyDelete
  36. When Clarisse says "Six of my friends have been shot in the last year alone. Ten of them died in car wrecks." What do you think has lead society to end up with so many deaths in so little time?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sarah- i do think so because he took a book before he they burned the building down.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Nouhad I agree with you, that he will quit his job an that Clarisse definatly influenced that choice.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Pierce M - I think that this society says that being social is the opposite of what we think. Social has become anti-social and vice versa.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ariel-
I agree with you and I think that another large reason why she is so different is because her uncle (who I'm pretty sure is reading) seems to play a large role in her life and he is also always testing the government and society.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Garett-
I think they had history in them and their society doesn't want the citizens to know what happened before them.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sarah,

Clarisse to Montag is happiness, freedom and individuality.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Garrett- they most definitely do. Books written in the past tell us what our roots are, why things are the way they are, and can help us make sure we don't make the same mistakes that were made in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Garett- I think they do and thats why they burn books now, so they dont remember any of their history

    ReplyDelete
  45. Pierce~
Maybe for them they say that Clarisse is anti-social because her mind seems to work differently then everyone elses because she is really not that anti-social because she always talks to Montag. So maybe that is just a label for people that think like Clarisse.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Do you think that Clarisse is going to change everyone's opinion on reading book's or just Montag's ?

    ReplyDelete
  47. TyW-
I think that the car crashes were a cause of them playing games like "Chicken" and stuff because on page 30 she talks about them. But as for the kids being shot, it is probably the tension and pressure of the society getting to them.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Garrett, Yes i think part of history would be lost with the burning of the books.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Jessie-

I was wondering the same thing about p.32. It mentions how the firehouse trembled because of the jet planes that flew above it. I don't know who it could be between. Maybe the jet planes are going through the place where Montag lives, and they are headed somewhere else, so that may be why the fireman aren't making a big deal out of it.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Sarah- I think it will change Montag's view first then he will spread the idea that book arent bad and it will become like an epidemic.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sarah-
I think that Montag thinks that burning books may be wrong because Clarisse is changing his perspective on his job. " Didn't firemen prvent fires rather than stoke them up and get them going?" (Bradbury 34).

    ReplyDelete
  52. Sarah- It seems that Clarisse got lucky with Montag because he didn't try to report her or anything. I think that if was any other person they might report her and she could get in trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Tyler- I believe that people who are creative and read books are being killed off. It seems like the society frowns upon individuality.

    ReplyDelete
  54. What do you guys have to say about the motif of snakes?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Sarah-
I think Clarisse will change many peoples minds on reading because soon they will ask questions about how they got to where they are now and what life was like before them.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Nouhad/Jessie-

I thought that the jet bombers were just flying to remind people that they were always being watched and that if they acted out they would be brought down, so in a way it might be a war of Government vs. the people.

    ReplyDelete
  57. TyW-
I think that their is so much death because no one in society values their life very much, without joy there isn't anything to live for.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Right before Clarisse says "Six of my friends have been shot in last year alone. Ten of them died in car wrecks." Clarisse says "I haven't any friends." this just confused me because it doesn't make any sense. Or does she mean that all of her friends died?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Do you think that violence is accepted in their community because on page 30 Clarisse tells Montag about all of her friends that have been killed in the past year.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Garett F,

I think that all books have historical value. This is also why I think that this book is so hard to believe. Without books we wouldn't know as much about our past or even have an idea of what our future will look like.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Is Clarisse scared of the punishment for her reading books?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Do the firemen ever think of why the people might want to die for their books?

    ReplyDelete
  63. On page 40, it says that Montag gasped when they were at the woman's house. What happened to the woman on the porch, and why did Montag gasp?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Garett-
I do think that some books have historical reference to them, that is why I think Montag took one book, maybe to see what the books hold within them.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Where was Clarisse? Later on in the chapter he mentioned how she was gone and everything was empty.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Peyton-
That quote is saying she is now friendless.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Connor- Its weird that there are so many different cases with snakes in it in the book, but I dont know like what the urge is to put snakes in so many scenes. Maybe later in the book snakes will be even a bigger motif and it will answer the question.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Krysta

I think so many people commit suicide because the society is just so depressing.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Sarah,
I think that Clarisse is a really big symbol in this book. I think that she and Montag are going to do something really big, maybe even against the law. I think that they are going to try to make everyone view the world as how it should be, like she already has with Montag.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Jessie, i dont think she was really gone i think that he is saying that he did not see her, so her felt empty, but i am not sure.

    ReplyDelete
  71. On page 30 (the long passage) is Clarisse taking about school or the way she looks at life?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Connor-
I think that the snakes symbolize the fear and the control over the society. You could say the society is being "strangled."

    ReplyDelete
  73. TyW- I think that could be because of how little value human life has in this book. If someone isn't going to full-on obey, the government don't seem to care if they live or die

    ReplyDelete
  74. Peyton-
I think when Clarisse is referring to her "friends" dying I don't think she means that they are true friends but people her age.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Sarah~
No I do not think that Clarisse would care if she got in trouble for reading books because she seems to just want to be open about life and how it was before the firemen and she doesn't care if she gets in trouble for it.

    ReplyDelete
  76. @Pierce , I don't think they have a historical value but Montag took one beacuse he realizes it's wrong to take stuff away from people and shouldn't be burning books/houses.

    ReplyDelete
  77. What do you think the purpose for taking books away was? Was it for power? Or was it because the Government believes the people don't need to read again? It reminds me of how in ancient times most people couldn't read except for the priests and scribes and the emperor (maybe) So are we (as evolving goes) going back in a circle, according to this book?

    ReplyDelete
  78. ty- i agree with you, i think the snakes are also a sign of control.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Bryce-
I agree but I also think they are committing suicide because they have nothing to live for and they don't have the freedom to relax and read.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Why are books so important to Clarisse?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Garett-
I think the firemen are too involved in their job, and don't really care about any of the buildings they burn down. That is why the society is corrupt in our eyes, but in theirs it is totally normal. Until people start reading books, they will see what happened in the past, which will change everyone point of view on society.

    ReplyDelete

  83. Garrett
I don't think any of the firemen are noticing, just like Montag in the beginning they think that this is normal, they have no outside knowledge of why books were such a good thing. I think that they just think of it as one more thing to deal with in their jobs, and I also think that Montag would also have never noticed unless Clarisse was in his life.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Garett F,

I dont think that the fireman really care how people want to die for their books, just as long as the books are gone. The fireman could careless if the person dies or gets hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Ariel,
I think its her life in general. It includes school but ultimately it seems like the teenage lifestyle is fatal.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Timmy, fire symbolizes destruction and basically the devil of the books

    ReplyDelete

  88. Timmy- Fire in the book is just everything. Without fire they wouldnt burn books obvi and there wouldnt be any problem.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Timmy- To me the fire in this book symbolizes the destruction of humanity. Not only because it is used to burn the books, but you can see in this book that the fire changes people. Like how firemen are completely different people all because of fire.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Krysta-
I think the violence has become accepted in a way. It doesn't sound like people like the violence but it happens so often that people have become accustom to it, they know no other way of life.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Timmy G-
I think that fire represents the fear in the society and also, fire seems to be associated with negative things more often so overall, fire is just a symbol for the negativity in the society.

    ReplyDelete
  92. SarahS- I think the governement took away books to make the society ignorant so that they would have more power and control over the people. If they're informed they could overthrow the government.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I think the fire symbolizes destruction like Drew said and also, i think it prevents people from accessing information.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Is Clarisse reading? And if so, are the firemen tracking her?

    ReplyDelete
  95. Like Sarah S. I have the same question on what is the purpose of burning books and who started this rule? Also why are people so following of this rule? Are they scared?

    ReplyDelete
  96. @timmy fire symbolizes destruction and it just destroys anything in its way whether it is books or buildings. I dont like how the Firemen are just abusing its power to destroy things (books) people still love and refuse to let go...

    ReplyDelete
  97. How is the uncle going to play a role in this book, even if he is introduced. Do you think that he will be someone important to this book?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Sarah S~
I think that the purpose of taking away the books was maybe because the government wanted to have absolute control over all of the people and in order to do that they can't allow the people to read books because if they did someone could know about the true society of mankind.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Jessie, I thought that Clarisse was reading but i am not sure. If she was i do not think they would track her because of montag.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Timmy-
I think the fire symbolizes destruction like everyone else, but also it represents chaos and war, which might come later in the book possibly.

    ReplyDelete
  101. As an answer to the very first question asked I think that Clarisse is going to play a bigger part in the book later because she will not only help him stop burning books but to also become his lover. Through the first pages we read about Clarisse we can see that they have a connection and that it is not just a ghost girl that he happens upon. In regards to Jenny L’s question I think that the mechanical hound symbolizes a king of the olden days because it watches over the people and it has the ability to get rid of someone that put a threat to him or the society. Also it symbolizes a god. It has the choice of life or death for you and whether you like it or not he controls you.
