  1. What is the little chip that Faber gives to Montag to put in his ear?

    ReplyDelete
  2. on page 82 Faber states, "It's not books you need, it's some of the things that were once in books." what does this mean and does it explain why Montag isn't understanding books?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Montag has been very bold with his books in these last few readings. It seems like he isn't afraid to show his books to people. Why is this?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Brad-
The chip was a seashell, and Faber used it to hear what was going on around Montag.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Do you think Faber and Montag's plan will work?

    ReplyDelete
  6. I was a little confused on page 94 when it said "Three White Cartoon Clowns chopped off each other's limbs..." Why were they cutting off each other's limbs? Isn't that MIldred's "family"?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Brad. It was obvi a communication device.

    ReplyDelete
  8. On page 92, does the image of night foreshadow what is to result from Montag and Faber's plan?

    ReplyDelete
  9. What is the "THING" or invention that Faber made and showed Montag? I don't understand why he made it he claims its cause hes a coward.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Timmy- I think for now its going good, but I think later they will get caught and that would be how the book will end, just a prediction.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Garett-
I think that Montag isn't afraid of showing people his books because he is standing up for what he thinks is right, so it doesn't matter what people think.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Ariel-
I think that Montag is starting to understand what books are all about and what they used to contain. This goes back to the quote where it says, "...it's some of the things that were once in books."

    ReplyDelete
  13. On page 85, Montag says "That's the good part about dying; when you've nothing to lose, you run any risk you want." What do you think Montag is implying?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Timmy, I don't think it will work because the book needs more action in it.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Garett-
I think that Montag isn't afraid to show people his books because he is the one who burns books, so it feels like he is able to read them without getting in any kind of trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  16. @Ariel, Montag is starting to understand books more and what they really mean

    ReplyDelete
  17. Jessica K, I'm pretty sure that it is the "family" but I don't understand why that would be in this book. The society seems to want to make people have a false happiness, not to do things that would be traumatizing because of the way people are.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Jamie- I think he is saying that when you have nothing to look for in your life or dont have much to loose, you are more risky.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ariel- I think what Faber is saying is that before books were illegal people got a lot of meaning out of books. The stories they read helped inspire them. Now that not many people read it is hard to get the meaning out of a book.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ariel-
I think that Montag is taking the books literally instead of looking at the overall picture and the lesson to be learned. Faber is helping Montag what to understand and look for.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Garett- I think that Montag is being bold with the books because he forgets they are there. It just seems that he feels comfortable with them and doesn't realize that he has them.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Jamie-
I think he is saying there is nothing to do in life if you don't have anything.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Jamie-
I think that Montag is implying that he is willing to risk his life for his cause. This is similar to Kathy Change's situation.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Timothy G,

I do think that Montag and Faber's plan will work but you never know. I think it will work because Faber is really smart and has a lot of experience with books. Also since Montag is a fire man no one will expect he has books except for Beatty.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jamie
I think that Montag is saying that when you have nothing to loose or your situation couldnt get any worse then you will do alot more risky and dangerous things because no matter what the situation cant get worse.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Jamie-
I believe Montag is implying that if you take risks in life, that it could favor or hurt you in the long run, but by taking the risks it makes you who you are, and it makes you remembered.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Does Faber even know the real meaning behind the Bible?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Garett, i think he is just standing up for what he thinks is right.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @jamie, montag is saying he will never give up and continue to fight for what he believes in, almost like the story about kathy.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Are Faber and Montag really gonna put books in all the fire houses around the country and get them burnt down?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Jamie M- Do you think Montag knows how to take books past just the literal sense? That isn't something you can do right away, it's something that you learn how to do

    ReplyDelete
  32. How is the state of fiction in this society? are there still stories of love, romance, and tragedy, or have they all been replaced by violent clowns and stupid ads?

    ReplyDelete
  33. @garret, I think he is just going for what he personally think the text means

    ReplyDelete
  34. On page 81 Montag says " My wife is dying. A friend of mine is already dead...." Is Mildred really dying or is he just saying that to Faber so maybe he will feel bad and help him?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Garett, i don't think he does , he just thinks its really important.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Jamie-

Montag is implying that if you have nothing to loose, you have nothing to hold you back from things that could be rather dangerous or risky. With nothing to loose you have no fear of dieing because fear generates around the unknown for example if you had kids, you would be fearful of dieing because you don't know how it will effect your kids, what will happen to them and such.I think Montag is starting to realize how messed up his society is.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Montag and Faber put a lot of time into their plan but what if it doesn't get the effect that they are looking for will they give up or will they keep trying?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Do you think that the ladies in Mildred's "family" are going to believe her when she said that Firemen are allowed to bring home a book once a year? Or do you think they will turn Montag in?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Garett-
I dont think he knows the meaning behind the Bible, but he is trying to help Montag and standing up for what he truly believes is right.

    ReplyDelete
  40. On page 85 Faber says "The only way I could possibly listen to you would be if somehow the fireman structure itself could be burnt."

Do you think this might happen and will Montag be the leader?

    ReplyDelete
  41. How did Montag get Faber to consider to help him?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Brad-
I think she really is dieing and at the same time wants Faber to feel bad for him.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ariel
I think they will because this is there way of saying "firefighters" are not doing the right thing. They are going to show everyone that books are good.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Garett, I think he knows taht its important and such, but I dont think he really knows the true meaning of the bible.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Garett F,

Yes I think that Faber does know the meaning of the bible because he praises it so much and was so excited that Montag had it. Also he seems to be so smart and know so much about books.

    ReplyDelete
  46. What did montag want form faber?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ariel-
Personally, yes, I believe that this plan is going to happen. I do not completely know if it will work in the end ultimately unbanning books.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Garret F- I think he does know the meaning behind the Bible. When Montag showed it to him he said, "It's as good as I remember" (81). He talks like he's read it before.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Pierce-
I think that Faber helped Montag because they were good friends and they both believed in the same thing (not burning books)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Brad- I think he is just saying that his wife is dying. Cause, I mean she takes so many pills and she forgets about them, she just doesn't seem mentally stable, and she may not be literally dying, but maybe she is in Montag's mind.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Madeline W-
I agree with you, but maybe Montag doesn't know that he has to read the book past the literal sense.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Why do parents in this society not love their children like we do in our society?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Drew-
Montag wants Faber to help him in burning down the firehouse and getting people back to reading books.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Drew F.
Montag wants Faber to help him with his plan. They are going to put books in the firehouses so they will be burnt down.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Drew F- Montag met Faber a long time ago and found out that he knows about books. He comes back to him so that he can have help understanding the Bible and to create a plan to change society.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Drew-
Montag wanted Faber to help him copy the Bible, and he needed his help with keeping the books he has safe.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Tyler- I was wondering the same thing. They almost hate their children and hate when they come home from school for the few days that they do out of the month and love when they leave to go back.

    ReplyDelete
  58. how can one ideal or viewpoint be more important than another? isn't that the idea of this country? every viewpoint is heard. one cannot choose a certain voice to be oppressed, one book to be banned, no matter how controversial.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Ariel-

I do believe they are going to put books in all the firehouses to get them burned down because they do seem dedicated to stopping what is happening so by burning down the fire houses, they cant burn books therefore helping to stop books from being destroyed. This kinda relates to Kathy change, she understood that it takes violate or brutal actions to get recognized so by her killing herself in public she raised awareness for her beliefs and cause. I think Montag and Faber do realize this too.

    ReplyDelete
  60. @Drew, he wants faber's help in getting books in firehouses to get them burnt down , in hope it will save books and people will be able to read them

    ReplyDelete
  61. Garett-
I do think that Faber knows the meaning behind the bible because it seems like he's read it before and Faber says, "Faber sniffed the book. "Do you know that books smell like nutmeg or some spice from a foreign land? I loved to smell them when I was a boy." This shows that Faber has read the Bible, because it is referring back when he read it as a boy.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Tyler
I think that the parents feel this way because of the way that their society has changed, like the parlor walls, people could have a kid in their tv family so why would they go threw the pain of having and raising a child.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Brad, To an extent I think Mildred is dying but not like "oh she has cancer and has 4 months to live." I think it's more in a sense of being brain-dead. She is so closed-minded and not that intelligent while Montag is more open minded and intellectual. It seems like a mind like Montag's is the only way to really "stay alive" instead of being a zombie in that society.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Brad-
Yes, I agree, the moms in the parlor are acting as if they have been brainwashed by the "TV" to believe that children are not a good thing.

    ReplyDelete
  65. i agree with jamie she seems to no care

    ReplyDelete
  66. Madeline- I agree, she cant ever answer any of Montag's questions he asks her previously in the book like where and when they met.

    ReplyDelete
  67. On page 89 when Faber states, "Those who don't build must burn. It's as old as history and juvenile delinquents." What does Faber mean and does it apply to Montag and how?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Are books banned because the government thinks they are all bad or is it because they are trying to take away peoples free will and be able to control them?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Why do you think we haven't heard anything about children other than the fact that people don't like them?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Tyler-

I think the reason their parents in their society do not love their kids or really show affection is because the change in society also brought change to the people in the society in a negative way. So from one generation to the next, parents treat their kids the way they were treated by their parents which led to them not loving or showing affection to their own kids if im making any sense at all.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Why did she start crying when she read the poem?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Matt, it is definitely because the government is just trying to control them. With the knowledge books could bring people, they'd realize this government is corrupt and over throw them.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Tyler W-
I think that the society in Fahrenheit 451 don't understand the importance of having a good family.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Matt- I think the government took away the books to have more control of the people and take away their ability to think deeper and expand their imaginations like in Harrison Bergeron.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Madeline W-
I also agree with you. Maybe because Mildred isn't that smart in certain areas that she doesn't understand the meaning of life and what she has been kept from.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Timmy-
I think since people don't like them they don't come out.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Drew
I think she started crying because she had never heard anything like that poem before and it was so stunning to her.

    ReplyDelete
  78. MattJ-
I think that they are trying to take away people free will and taking control of them because the government wanted the citizens to be ignorant of history, which makes everyone listen to the government because they are so ignorant.

    ReplyDelete
  79. As the book goes on there are more and more differences from our own. On page 96 Mrs. Bowles said " I plunk the children in school nine days out of ten. I put up with them when they come home three days a month; it's not bad at all..." how could someone not even see their children the majority of days in a month?

    ReplyDelete
  80. How would the people living in this world be so overwhelmed by the idea of seeing images in their mind, or by feeling something, anything besides mindless entertainment.

"A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness."
    -Robert Frost

The beauty of poetry is that its not always comforting, it is distilled human emotion, and just like real life, you have to take the happy with the melancholy,

    ReplyDelete
  81. It seems like every relationship in the book seems to be only there because it was forced upon them. Like they say how if one of them dies they will just re marry, and how mrs. Phelps seems to not care at all about her husband leaving for war. Do people in this society only act their feeling because that is what they have been taught to do or do they actually feel their emotions and ignore them?

    ReplyDelete
  82. On page 96 Why does Mrs.Phelps hate kids so much and why does she treat them like objects or pieces of junk?

    ReplyDelete
  83. @drew she cried beacuse she has never heard anything like that etc. she was really shocked

    ReplyDelete
  84. Drew F.- From what I understand the reason she started crying is because she was scared, because books are illegal.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Garett- They dont like their kids so they jsut send them away to like a reform kind of school I think or a school where they stay there all of the time instead of going to school and coming and sleeping at home.

    ReplyDelete
  86. What do you think the Bible means to Faber?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Drew F-
This goes back to the government where they say all the books are illegal, and she is so ignorant, which makes her believe that they are illegal.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Matt J-
I agree with you because the relationships do seem that way. I don't think the people in this society know how to act and show their emotions. Maybe they don't know what emotions are and the power emotions have.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Garret
Maybe in their childhood they were not around their parents much so when they grow up they would not be around their kids because thats the way that their society works.

    ReplyDelete
